A Review of NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness

OK, I was asked by PeasandBananas to mention this charity. Now, as I always suggest to everyone, I checked it out.
Never support or give to a charity without first checking it out.
I checked various chapters of NAMI, reviews, and State Revenue agencies regarding income and expenditures…as well as the BBB report.
I assist in the operation of a Registered charity myself ( Children and Youth In Crisis www.childrenandyouthincrisis.org ) so I am very concerned with how people give and whether or not what they give is being used appropriately and if it has any actual impact.
I’ve checked out a lot of charities over the years as I have been involved with several in some odd 30 years in various capacities and I look at each with a very critical eye.
I would not recommend anything to you that I have not personally checked out myself. For all intents and purposes NAMI rates very high on credibility and financial responsibility…but I’ll let the BBB Report speak for itself:

( Don’t be fooled by charities, there are some excellent small-time or relatively unknown charities that are very good, and many large and well-known charities that aren’t. Don’t base your giving on what you ‘ think ‘ you know, base it upon what you DO know. )
